About Us
Animal communication is a life journey
I have always loved animals and plants, and I have always wanted to be near them and to help them. But as I grew up, joined adult society, and started worrying about how to support myself and what I should do with my life, I armored my heart. Otherwise the sadness was overwhelming. It was an unconscious process. After all, what can one person do to save the forests from being cut down for profit, and the animals from being killed as collateral damage? What can one person do to save all the old, abandoned, homeless and sick pets? There seems to be an endless list of heartbreaking problems, doesn't there? So I learned to live in my mind. I became a scientist. Science is a great tool, a powerful tool. I applied myself to my job, and hoped to do good and meaningful work from the safe distance of scientific analysis. But at some level, I knew that I had lost something. Everything began to change when Monty came into my life, to be my very best friend and very best teacher ever! I started to remember another way to be. I started to remember how to live with an open heart, open enough to hear the voices of the animals. I came to understand that animals and plants are our teachers, and that life is truly a vast and loving collaboration. I am still learning, I am still growing. But there is no going back! When we, as humans, learn (remember) that animal communication is possible, and experience it for ourselves, our worldview shifts, and we become part of the movement towards a more compassionate, joyful, and loving world. We reclaim our place of kinship with the animals and all life; we regain our sense of belonging. Welcome!

How animal communication works
Animals communicate with us in a variety of ways - the most obvious examples are body language, barks, whinnies, meows, chirps, etc. But they also communicate with us through pictures, thoughts, feelings, and physical sensations. This language is sometimes called telepathic, intuitive, or psychic communication. I like to think of it as heart-to-heart communication. Like any language, it takes practice to learn to communicate fluently! Many people are very connected with their animals and experience heart-to-heart communication without being aware of it. Everyone has the ability to communicate with their animals in this way. But because modern culture discourages trust in heart-based language, we humans have become very rusty!

In 2019, I began a course of study with Carol Gurney, internationally known animal communicator, teacher, and founder of The Gurney Institute of Animal Communication, and author of The Language of Animals: 7 Steps to Communicating with Animals. Along the way, I acquired a true friend and mentor in Hana Makinen, animal communicator and medium (endandafter.com), and a little farther along the way, the universe conspired to introduce me to Denise Kelsey, animal communicator and inspiring teacher (oneanima.com). I’ve learned so much (and continue to learn) from teachers, fellow students, and of course, the animals themselves!

Carol Gurney is founder of The Gurney Institute of Animal Communication, and she is my teacher. Carol is a pioneer in the world of animal communication. Since 1986, she has traveled the globe teaching people how to connect with their animal companions. Carol is the author of the book The Language of Animals: 7 Steps to Communicating with Animals. She is the first to offer a fully comprehensive training program in this ever-growing field.
